Last week, a fight between Pakistan and its neighbor Iran broke through near their respective borders. The fight got worse when both the countries started doing air strikes across each other’s borders. This made the ongoing issue between the two neighbors more serious.
The trouble started when Iran launched a missile at Pakistan and blamed it on separatist rebels based in Iran. In response, Pakistan launched a missile at Iran targeting terrorist hideouts, aiming at different groups of BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) and BLF (Balochistan Liberation Front), who are considered as groups who often cause problems in Balochistan province and find safety in Iran. Pakistan named this operation “Operation Zarb-e-Shumar”.
The Stance of Both Countries on Airstrikes
Pakistan stated that they had clearly destroyed the hideouts of the groups of BLA and BLF. Whereas, Iran strongly opposed this stance and criticized that Pakistan violated its border and caused severe harm to the civilians including innocent women and children. Iran further insisted that the places that Pakistan has attacked are not linked with any militant groups and demanded Pakistan to stop its military actions.
Pakistan and Iran have always carried a not-so-friendly relationship, as they have a history of disputes on religion, land, and ethnicity. Neither Pakistan nor Iran supports each other’s rebels, but the militant groups take advantage of the open borders and cause distrust and anger among both nations.
Pakistan launched missiles at Iran in response to the attack in Balochistan, where security forces and innocent civilians lost their lives. Pakistan asked Iran to control the actions of BLA/BLF several times, but Iran took no response, which led to anger and the launch of the missiles.
What The World Said About the Pak-Iran conflict
People all around the world are looking for peace and talk. The UN urged both countries to be careful and solve their problem through diplomacy. On the other hand, China being a good friend of Pakistan also suggested Pakistan to opt for peace.
The Reactions Shown by The Both Sides
After the attacks both the countries called their representative ambassadors back to their respective countries, the attack made the relationship quite worse between Pakistan and Iran. The official connections were cut off and the language used became extremely worse and intense.
The Recent Development Between The Two Nations
Pakistan and Iran both have decided, in order to maintain friendly neighbors’ relationships, they will start talking again even after the recently exchanged air strikes. The decision to call the ambassadors back of both the countries has been called off.
On Monday, a recent joint statement that was made after a phone call between the foreign ministers of both the countries, declared that the decision has been called off, and both the ambassadors of the two Islamic republics will be returning to their respective positions on 26th of January.
Moreover, the Iranian Foreign minister will be visiting his counterparts in three days, which clearly shows that the two countries are working to make their relationship better, after the shared air strikes that led to serious Pakistan-Iran conflict.
