The new music sensation Fabiha Hashmi, famous for her song “Tera Mera Hai Pyar Amar” that is currently making rounds on the internet, is not unknown to anyone. Fabiha’s journey from being just another girl to becoming one of the most loved and appreciated female voices of Pakistan after she sang the most surreal OST for HUM TV’s drama serial, ‘Ishq Murshid,’ had its own ups and downs. Let’s explore her journey and how she became the music sensation of Pakistan. Fabiha Hashmi was always an outgoing girl and didn’t like sitting in the classroom even though she was a brilliant student. Her journey into the music industry had many ups and downs, but Fabiha stayed determined and consistent throughout. She believes she got a good singing voice as a gift from her mother since her mother also has a melodious voice but never got to practice singing on a professional level.
From School Competitions to National Recognition
Her journey began around the time of 14 August when she was just 11 years old. Her teacher was looking for a student who could sing the national song at the Independence Day event. Just for fun, Fabiha gave the audition and ended up getting selected. That was when she realized and recognized her hidden talent, which was singing.
Fast forward, Fabiha became known as the girl with a beautiful voice and singing talent in her school. She represented her school on various platforms and sang at multiple events. Then came a day when one of her friends called and informed her about some singing auditions happening at PTV. Fabiha really wanted to go but was afraid her parents wouldn’t allow it because there is a stigma around the music industry of Pakistan, and her father especially didn’t approve of his daughter becoming a singer. But to her surprise, when she asked for permission, her father let her go! Fabiha was over the moon. She went for the auditions and was immediately selected.
Fabiha’s memorable experience on ‘Jago Pakistan Jago
Along with managing her studies, she kept singing in various shows and events. Then, around the time of her O Levels exams, there was a competition going on in the morning show, ‘Jago Pakistan Jago,’ hosted by Sanam Jung. Fabiha’s friend once again called her to inform her. But Fabiha refused this time because she could not miss school the following day. That night, while lying down with her mother, she mentioned the competition happening in the morning show. Her mom was surprised at her refusal to go. She motivated her and asked her not to miss the opportunity. The next morning, Fabiha took a half day from school, sat in a rickshaw with her sister, and attended the show. She cleared the first round. On the day of the second round, she got a bit late and reached the venue when things were getting wrapped up. She was informed that the round had been completed and that she could go back until the director saw her at the door. ‘When God makes way, nothing can stop you.’ He called Fabiha inside and took her to the room where the judges were seated. Her audition was taken, and she, of course, cleared it. She was the second runner-up in this competition. From there, the doors of further opportunities kept opening for her, and Fabiha started walking on her dream path.
She got an OST and many commercials, and her voice started making rounds everywhere. Eventually, she was approached for a film song, which was recorded at Shuja Haider’s studio. Fabiha was star-struck since she was his huge fan. With shaking hands, she recorded the music. She was called to the premiere of the movie, where she became acquainted with even more people. She was among celebrities, including Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas. Her song was played in the cinema hall. Not being able to control her feelings, Fabiha began crying. The song crossed a million views.
Fabiha’s song was nominated for the LUX Style Awards
In the 2022 LUX Style Awards, her film song was among the nominations. She went all the way from Karachi to Lahore to attend the show, marking her first-ever solo trip. Her flight got delayed, and she was tense about the fact that the team would cut her off since she was not very famous. Anyway, she reached Lahore and found out that there was no makeup artist available. What was worse was that she wasn’t even carrying her main makeup bag. She still managed with just a few things, got ready, and reached the venue of the Award Show. While walking in the place where people were being interviewed, nobody recognized Fabiha. Therefore, she wasn’t given any importance, which made her feel awkward. Surprisingly, two people from a magazine identified her and took her interview. One of the highlights of the show for her was to see her name written on a chair especially reserved for her. When the nominations for film songs were announced, she heard her music playing, and that was when she realized that she was the winner of the nomination. She did not know how to feel. She couldn’t cry, couldn’t smile. She was so overwhelmed. After the show ended, she went back to her hotel and spent the night staring at her award, trying to comprehend what had just happened. After that, she got immense recognition and fame.
“When you get fame, people start making up things about you, pulling you into controversies and fake news.”
How Fabiha Hashmi Became a Musical Journey
Several challenges and difficulties came her way, but she was determined to do what she loved. She sang the OST for ‘Mann Angna,’ but the backstory of recording this song is quite saddening. The day before the recording was scheduled, there was a power breakdown in Pakistan. With her electric gadgets not charged, Fabiha could not memorize the song she had to record in the studio. When she went the next day, she was insulted by the composer and left the studio crying.
With bad days come good days. Recently, she was approached by Pakistan’s famous drummer, Ahad Nayani, who asked her to come onboard on a project offered by Express Entertainment. The team contacted her, and she accepted the offer, but little did she know that she would be working with one of the biggest celebrities in Pakistan and, of course, one of her favorites, Mahira Khan. She went out of the studio, recorded the song for ‘Razia,’ and was instantly offered another piece for the same serial.
About the stigmas and rumors surrounding the media industry, Fabiha Hashmi says, “Media is not a very bad field as portrayed by many. It depends on how you tackle people and things. If you give someone a shut-up call once, they won’t trigger you again. You have to be strong and determined with your goals.”
